Rapper and actor Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has been charged with attacking his ex-girlfriend and trashing her Los Angeles condominium.
The 37-year-old rapper was charged with domestic violence and four counts of vandalism, states The Hollywood Reporter. If convicted, Jackson faces up to five years in jail, in addition to $46,000 in fines.
According to reports, Jackson had already left the Los Angeles condo when officers arrived at the residence, which belongs to a woman with whom Jackson had a baby. The woman told police she had been in a three-year relationship with Jackson.
During the incident, which occurred on June 23, the woman told police that Jackson began destroying her property following a heated argument. The woman locked herself in her bedroom to avoid Jackson, at which point he kicked the bedroom door open and cornered her, at which point he began to kick her.
Police placed damage estimates at around $7,100, with many broken items including chandeliers, furniture and a television.
“Regardless of perceived celebrity or notoriety, domestic violence is a serious crime and alleged perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by this office,” says attorney Mike Feuer.
